Rudy comes to town

Rudy came to town today on his way around Florida in his due or die battle here. It was cold for Jacksonville but the crowd numbered about 150. Giuliani's entourage, two buses and assortment of rented vehicles, arrived on time but the event, in usual fashion, started 20 minutes late. Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum introduced Admiral Robert J. Natter, an adviser to Rudy, who then finally introduced the mayor. The speech was lively enough. He introduced some people in the crowd who had lost family members in Iraq, strangely enough Giuliani didn't seem to have the facts straight, something that I thought his staff would've done. It seemed to work though when he brought them up on stage to speak.

He went on for a while about national security, then he outlined some interesting goals. He wants to add 10 brigades to the army, increase the navy to over 300 ships (there are 280 now), give the air force new generation bombers, and increase the Marines to over 200,000. Something for everyone. Then the doozy. He wants to home port the new super carrier, U.S.S. George H.W. Bush at N.S. Mayport. The crowd loved it. Well I guess since he didn't win New Hamster it is not going there.

I was impressed until I went to shake his hand and he seemed like the giant ass which he is sometimes portrayed as. Rudy, come on when you got a tiny crown in Florida, spend more time glad-handing. I guess I'll still support McCain.
